Meet The Team

Our Structure

The 2023-24 Health Perspectives Editorial team involves a collaborative structure that aims to be equitable for all team members. The team consists of Senior Editors, responsible for overseeing individual sections of the journal, Junior Editors who are responsible for reviewing submissions, Statistics Editors who review the statistical claims and legitemacy of submissions, and an amazing Engagement Director, who helps us to promote the work of the journal. We encourage collaboration and cameraderie among out team to ensure that our work is of the highest possible quality. We also work with an amazing Layout Editor and Director of Engagement who help us to bring you a polished and professional journal.

Our Values

Our cohort of editors works hard to promote high-quality student work adressing novel and pressing questions in the field of public health. We value intellectual rigour, equity, and transparency, always working hard to make sure that we are lifting up the most important voices in health.

Editor-in-Chief + Senior Editors

Typically upper-year students, our editor-in-chief and 3 senior editors act as leaders and advisors for the remainder of the team. Senior editors compile and review feedback from our junior editors to select the best possible articles to be included in the publication. The Senior Editors and Editors-in-Chief collaborate on journal concepts, future directions, and associated initiatives in the University of Toronto community.

As one of the Co-Editor-in-Chiefs of Health Perspectives, it is an honor to lead this esteemed academic journal, where profound ideas and innovation converge. Our journal serves as a beacon for the visionary perspectives of our diverse student body where each voice offers a distinct lens on current health issues. I am currently majoring in Health Studies and double minoring in Immunology and Biology. My goal for Health Perspectives is to create an accessible collection of research that ultimately has the ability to ignite substantial change.

My academic interests lies at the intersect of the two; improving health outcomes through addressing the social determents of health. I was a Junior Editor last year, and am privileged to once again be contributing to the journal, this year as a Senior Editor.

Hello! My name is Juliana, a second year student specialize in Global Health, with a major in Nutritional Sciences and a minor in Immunology. I joined the editorial team because I am passionate to amplify the voices of undergraduate students and assist them to tell their stories!

Junior Editors

Junior Editors are the backbone of the journal. They work closely with Senior Editors to provide valuable feedback and commentary on submissions, making sure that we only publish work of the highest possible quality. They have diverse experience, providing unique insights into substance and style.

Abigaelle

I’m currently a fourth year undergraduate majoring in Human Biology and double minoring in Immunology and Classical Civilization. I joined Health Perspectives as a way to engage in public health-related opportunities and become more informed in a field I plan to pursue in the future. While working as a junior editor, I hope to gain new ‘perspective’ on how non-medical factors can influence the delivery of health services and indirectly affect a population’s access to primary healthcare.

Hi my name is Angie Falconi and I am currently in the Health Studies Specialist program! One area of Health Studies that I am interested in is health and aging and how social isolation impacts our health in our later years. I’ve chosen to be a junior editor to expand my knowledge on vast Health Studies topics and to participate in scholarly discourse within the U of T community.

Hi! My name is Anjali and I am a third-year majoring in Health Studies and Diaspora and Transnational Studies. I am interested in the intersections between public health, migration, and climate change through the lens of health law and policy. I am looking forward to being a part of the Health Perspectives team and creating this years publication!

Hi! My name is Jayda. I am currently in my third year of studies in Health and Disease and Bioethics. I am thrilled to be a Junior Editor for the 2024 edition of the Health Perspectives Journal!

I am a second year Kinesiology undergraduate student. I enjoy painting, hiking, lifting weights, and of course, reading and writing! I’ve chosen to be apart of the Editorial team because I view this as an incredible opportunity to improve my editing skills and challenge myself! I’m interested in pursing neuro or chronic disease and inflammation research after my undergrad.

Majoring in Neuroscience, double minoring in physiology and psychology.
Academic Interest: My research interest lies in the intersection of neuroscience, technology, and human enhancement.
Impact: I hope to pursue novel applications in neurotechnology and bridge the gap between healthcare and innovation.
Why I’ve joined: As a member of the editorial board, I aim to contribute to the dissemination of knowledge and facilitate meaningful dialogue within and beyond the scientific community.

HI! My name is Muzna Mian and I am a third year student at Uoft Majoring in Human Biology (Global Health) and minoring in Immunology and GIS. I have a keen interests in pursuing a career in the field of healthcare! I chose to be part of the editorial team as I feel experience is a valuable tool to have in the field of research and healthcare, during my time with the team I hope to meet like minded individuals who share similar interests.

Statistics Editors serve to review submissions that rely heavily on data, assisting other editors with reviews of calculations to ensure that authors are working with the best possible tools for their work.

I’m currently a second year Neuroscience & PharmTox double major. My previous research interests were on pharmacoepidemiology, though now I’m shifting to a more life science-y kind of research with Neuroimaging. I’m also keen on caffeine and greens!

Our content editors are supported by an amazing team who help us to polish and then show off the journal. We work with a Layout Editor, responsible for designing the journal itself, and a Director of Engagement, who helps us to market our work and the work of the authors. Together, they help us bring you a finished and great looking work.

Hello Everyone! I’m Fatima Jafri, and I’m currently finishing my last year with a major in Health Science and a minor in Biology and Psychology. My interest in health science is a good blend of biology and a passion for research and publishing. When I’m not buried in journals, you can catch me nose-deep in a good book or spiking volleyballs on the court. I also love winding down with a round of bowling and escaping reality with some anime!
